The Ring Two

Well I just got out of watching The Ring Two and only have a few minutes before I have to be somewhere and am struggling on how I want to approach this. Do I want to tell you about the movie itself, or do I want to just write about how I feel after watching that? Let’s go ahead and get it out of the way. Wow. What a complete LETDOWN. Wow again. I went into the first Ring (the American remake) expecting junk. Hollywood remake dreck. But instead I was blown away by how good it was. This one was the complete opposite experience. I am a fan of The Ring and an even bigger fan of the original, Hideo Nakata’s Ringu. So ever since I learned that Nakata was taking over the director’s chair for part two, I was eager for its release.
The Sadako/Samara character is one of the creepiest things to come along in the genre in a while. I consider Ringu to be a top horror flick for the ages. How in the heck can Samara not even be creepy? The Ring Two falls prey to absurdity, which in and of itself hardly kills a horror flick, but it commits the truly deadly sin of actually being boring.
All of the areas that made Ringu the great film that it is are missing from The Ring Two. No atmosphere. No suspense. No dread. No timing. Bad acting, writing, dialogue. And like I was saying, Samara is not even intimidating! AAARGH.
I’m really, really bummed. It starts out really weak with a blah intro story that you don’t even care about and from that point on never escapes from the obvious. I kept hoping that it would turn a corner the way The Grudge did, but that never happened. I kept waiting and the movie is too long. Even my hopes for some kind of evil ending were unfulfilled. The end credits rolled up, my heart went down.
