The Knoxville Horror Film Fest will present its fourth annual celebration of horror filmmaking on Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27 at Relix Variety Theatre, in the heart of Knoxville’s Happy Holler district. As in past years, Friday night is dedicated to a multi-hour competitive program of the best short horror films from around the region and around the world, while Saturday will feature the KHFF awards ceremony and special out-of-competition screenings including the entries in the second annual Grindhouse Grind-Out timed filmmaking contest. In addition, the 2012 event will also see an expansion of the festival’s feature-length offerings: Friday night’s attendees will be treated to Richard Bates Jr’s macabre Sundance sensation Excision (starring 90210’s Annalynne McCord and adapted from the short film that won “Best US Film” at the first annual Knoxville Horror Film Fest in 2009) while Saturday will feature a post-awards screening of the buzzed-about “found footage” anthology V/H/S. Not content to confine the gory fun to two nights, festival organizers have even collaborated with Regal Downtown West Cinema 8 to present a special opening night event on Thursday, October 25, featuring not only key shorts from past festivals but also the regional premiere of Don Coscarelli’s long-awaited surrealist horror comedy John Dies At The End. Passes ($10 per night or $25 for a three-night festival pass) will be available beginning October 1 at knoxvillehorrorfest.com
