Ah, sundown in the cemetery. We spent the late afternoon of September 30, 2007 at the Old Gray Cemetery in Knoxville. The Lantern and Carriage Tour is the cemetery's annual open house event where they open their gates to Knoxville residents in order to share what lies inside these historic grounds. Dedicated in 1852, the cemetery houses a diverse collection of beautiful monuments arranged under a carefully cultivated collection of trees and natural vegetation.
A perfect kickoff to fall and the Halloween season, in addition to the carriage ride the tour includes re-enactors dressed in period costume who tell their stories to visitors posing as the residents, or relatives of residents of the cemetery.
