TCM Redux (6/11/03) The director of "Armageddon" and "Pearl Harbor" is re-making The Texas Chainsaw Massacre???
So, we're getting a remake of TCM huh? This is the 3rd time I've heard about a TCM remake, the first two turned out to be "The Next Generation" (has it's moments), and "Ed Gein" (haven't seen it, sorry). This one though, the IMDB credits Kim Henkel & Tobe Hooper with the writing credits so it sounds like a true remake. What a stupid idea! Common sense dictates that you can't improve on perfection.
The couple of places I've read people buzzing about this flick online, it seems mostly positive. Well, the director is Mr. Michael Bay (update: Bay is no longer listed as director, but producer. hmm), someone I was not familiar with. Turns out he's the man behind the horror classics "Armageddon," "Pearl Harbor," and "Bad Boys I & II." Good lord. Can this remake be any more Hollywood?
Take a look at Leatherface here. Too much makeup, not enough "leather." He looks more like Frankenstein. Other than trying to re-create the mouth look, it doesn't even look like he's wearing a mask! This simple minded cannibal sure can form fit some skin... check around the eyes. Why, why, why?
One possible good: The great R. Lee Ermey is in the cast (are we to be sure there's no Ben Affleck or Will Smith?).

Update (8/5/03), the website is now up with a trailer. It actually looks "ok" (and by ok I mean that it IS a re-make of the best movie ever made, so it will obviously pale in comparison, however, for a horror flick circa 2003... well, I'll take what I can get). I imagine I'll go see it. I might regret it.
I noticed it has the demonic fella from those Hyundai commercials, and yes, they've changed it up some, it's not another "Psycho." It's inevitably "hipped up," I'm not exactly feeling 1973 when I look at these kids. I just don't understand why you don't do something new instead of remaking this movie. Something new could be enjoyable without the comparisons (and blasphemy). Ah well, what do you expect I suppose.
